Abhishek Shankar: Exploring Link Between HPV Infection and Coronary Artery Disease
Abhishek Shankar, Associate Professor in the Department of Radiation Oncology at All India Institute of Medical Sciences, recently shared on LinkedIn:
“I am delighted to share our latest publication in Molecular and Cellular Biochemistry titled ‘Exploring the Potential Link Between Human Papillomavirus (HPV) Infection and Coronary Artery Disease (CAD): A Review of Shared Pathways and Mechanisms’ led by Abhijit Chakraborty, Ph.D, PMP.
Starting from HPV known as important risk factor for 3 gynae cancers to an important risk factor for 6 cancers in both sexes. While reading about HPV and cancer association, we also came across about potential link between human papillomavirus infection and coronary artery disease. We tried to explore this association by reviewing shared pathways and mechanisms.
Many congratulations to Abhijit Chakraborty and his team members Dr. Dwaipayan Saha and Dr. Preyangsee Dutta and all other authors.
This review explores the emerging evidence that HPV, a widespread infection, may contribute to the development of CAD through chronic inflammation, metabolic disruptions, and vascular changes. With CAD affecting millions worldwide, particularly in younger populations, understanding non-traditional risk factors is crucial for improving prevention and treatment strategies.
I know that this may be surprising for many who never read about this association before like I had for the first time.”
