Gianluca Franceschini: A great success for the 8th Breast Club of the Gemelli Polyclinic
Gianluca Franceschini, Professor of General Surgery at the Catholic University of the Sacred Heart, shared a post on LinkedIn:
“A great success for the 8th Breast Club of the Gemelli Polyclinic!
The 8th Breast Club confirmed itself as an unmissable event, shedding light on a fundamental aspect in the treatment of breast cancer patients: ‘The importance of Psycho-Oncology in the Integrated Diagnostic Therapeutic Assistance Pathway (PIDTA) of the Breast Unit of the Gemelli Polyclinic’.
Why was it so significant?
We explored how psycho-oncology is an essential pillar in the integrated approach to breast cancer. Not only emotional support, but a real resource that accompanies patients from diagnosis to treatment, up to recovery, improving the quality of life and promoting a global and integrated care.
The topics covered aroused deep interest:
- Psycho-oncological triage – The first fundamental phase to integrate psychological support into the therapeutic path (Dr. Daniela Belella).
- Genetic psycho-oncological counseling – How to deal with the psychological impact of genetic risk in breast cancer (Dr. Stefania Carnevale).
- Post-traumatic growth – Transforming the experience of cancer into an opportunity for growth and resilience (Dr. Marinella Linardos).
- Psycho-oncology and onco-fertility – Supporting patients in emotionally complex choices related to fertility (Dr. Francesca Veccia).
Highly experienced moderators:
Prof. Daniela Pia Rosaria Chieffo and Prof. Giampaolo Tortora, who led the meeting with mastery and competence.
Why was this event crucial?
The integration of psycho-oncology into the treatment pathway is not only an added value, but an essential component that improves and enriches the entire treatment.
Targeted psychological support can make a difference, not only in the management of the disease, but also in the psycho-physical recovery of patients.
