David Fajgenbaum: 1 in 10 of us will develop a disease with no treatments
David Fajgenbaum, Physician-Scientist at University of Pennsylvania and Co-Founder at Every Cure, made the following post on Twitter:
“1 in 10 of us will develop a disease with no treatments.
In fact, 300 million people battle one of the 9,000 diseases without approved therapies, and underserved communities suffer the most.
While many of these diseases could be treated with drugs sitting on the local pharmacy’s shelf, repurposing discoveries typically occur by chance and are often not accessible in an equitable way.
At Every Cure we aim to solve this problem by focusing on 3 strategic areas.
1. Using Artificial Intelligence to identify the most promising drug repurposing opportunities
2. Performing efficient clinical trials
3. Ensuring equitable access to new cures.
Because we prioritize impact over profits, we can ensure to save the most lives possible.
Which diseases are in most need of finding a cure through maximizing the potential of existing medicines?”
