Carolyn Taylor: The latest cancer statistics in America are alarming
Carolyn Taylor, Founder and Executive Director of Global Focus on Cancer (GFC), shared an article by Rebecca L. Siegel, et al. on LinkedIn:
“The latest cancer statistics in America are alarming: while overall cancer incidence has declined in men, it has risen in women—especially younger women. Women under 50 now face an 82% higher cancer incidence rate than men of the same age, and lung cancer rates in women under 65 have surpassed those in men for the first time.
Meanwhile, racial disparities remain a serious threat to progress, particularly for Native American and Black individuals, who continue to face barriers to prevention and treatment.
And yet, Trump’s attack on DEI is stripping funding from exactly the kind of research that could save lives.
By dismantling diversity, equity, and inclusion efforts, we aren’t just talking about politics—we’re talking about blocking life-saving cancer research that addresses gender and racial disparities in care. We need more investment, not less, to ensure equitable access to prevention, screening, and treatment for all.
This isn’t about ideology. It’s about science. It’s about saving lives.”
