George Vlachogiannis: A growing CRC burden among younger individuals in high socio-demographic index regions
George Vlachogiannis, Executive Editor of Cancer Control at Sage Publishing, shared a post on LinkedIn about a paper by Laalithya Konduru et al. published in Cancer Control:
“Leveraging machine learning forecasting, Laalithya Konduru, Simran Dahia, Claudia Szabo, and Savio George Barreto report a comprehensive analysis of colorectal cancer (CRC) trends, including incidence, death, and disability-adjusted life year (DALY) rates, with a focus on age-, sex-, and country-specific dynamics.
Their forecasting models reveal a growing CRC burden among younger individuals in high socio-demographic index regions, and a demographic shift toward higher CRC rates in females, especially older adults.
These insights call for proactive health strategies, including targeted screening for high-risk younger populations, public awareness campaigns, and enhanced healthcare infrastructure to mitigate future impacts. The study provides a robust forecasting framework to support long-term healthcare planning and improve patient outcomes.”
