Wafik S. El-Deiry, Associate Dean for Oncologic Sciences at the Warren Alpert Medical School and Director of the Legorreta Cancer Center at Brown University, shared a post on LinkedIn:

“Science is not a business.

True breakthrough discoveries involve trial and error, serendipity, and an environment that allows some element of risk. Monetizing ROI is for the private sector.

I learned decades ago that you never know where those big impactful discoveries come from ahead of time. There has to be room for basic science as an engine for R&D. The process of discovery is part of a fragile ecosystem and needs to be nurtured and preserved.

Reducing politics and seeking truth to help patients and humanity in general is needed.”
