Dana-Farber celebrated the life and legacy of Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. during its 23rd annual MLK event – Dana-Farber Cancer Institute

“In words, dance, song, and story, Dana-Farber celebrated the life and legacy of Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. yesterday during its 23rd annual MLK event.
Gathering in person on Dana-Farber’s Longwood campus, and virtually at Zoom watch parties across all its campuses, staff, faculty, and friends received passionate calls to action from speakers including Michael Curry, Esq., President and CEO of the Massachusetts League of Community Health Centers, and Dana-Farber President and CEO Benjamin L. Ebert.
They were inspired by performances from the Stajez Dance Company, and joined in a resounding rendition of “Lift Every Heart and Sing” led by Torrence J. Nelson, worship & arts director at the Bethel AME Church of Boston.
Ebert also used the occasion to note two recent developments:
Passage in Massachusetts of the Breast Cancer Equity and Early Detection Act, removing cost barriers for breast cancer screening and other testing, and Dana-Farber’s inaugural healthcare equity certification by The Joint Commission.
“Dr. King was able to articulate his dream for an equitable society, and move us closer to that dream,” Ebert said. “Our mission is to decrease the burden of cancer, regardless of zip code, background, income, race, and any other factor. In pursuit of this mission, we continue to be inspired by Dr. King’s legacy.”
