Toufic Kachaamy: The Evolution of GI Surgical Oncology – From Radical to Revolutionary
Toufic Kachaamy, Chief of Medicine and Medical Director of Gastroenterology at City of Hope, Phoenix, shared a post on LinkedIn:
“The Evolution of GI Surgical Oncology: From Radical to Revolutionary.
Over the past century, surgical oncology has undergone a remarkable transformation. In the early days, radical surgeries were the gold standard for treating gastrointestinal (GI) cancers, often involving extensive tissue removal and a significant impact on patients’ quality of life.
Today, we’re witnessing a revolution driven by innovation and collaboration. Minimally invasive techniques, advanced imaging, robotics, and endoscopic procedures have redefined the landscape, reducing recovery time, preserving function, and enhancing patient outcomes.
The next frontier?
Organ preservation – a paradigm shift where we aim not just to treat cancer but to restore and maintain the integrity of the organ itself. Techniques like local ablation, endoscopic resection, and active surveillance are allowing us to offer patients effective cancer treatment while avoiding the life-altering consequences of radical surgery.
If you’re as passionate as I am about advancing GI cancer care, join us at the only conference that dedicates a session exclusively to organ preservation in oncology. This is more than a discussion—it’s a movement toward better patient outcomes and higher quality of life.
Let’s shape the future of GI oncology together. Learn, collaborate, and innovate with the brightest minds in the field.
