Wafaa M Rashed: Presenting critical topics with Affirmative and Negative teams

Wafaa M Rashed, Founder of MicroRNA Childhood Cancer Catalog (M3Cs) and Lecturer at Faculty of pharmacy Ahram Canadian University, shared on LinkedIn:

“We are thrilled to share a special video featuring our dedicated participants of the Policy Advocacy in Genetics and Genomics course, brought to you by the Pan-African PGS Education and Research Initiative (PAPERI).

Watch as these passionate individuals introduce themselves and the compelling topics they’ve chosen for the upcoming debate session on January 24th, 2025, at 10:00 AM Cairo Time.

This is a unique opportunity to witness the future leaders in genetics and genomics advocacy from across Africa and beyond.

There are eight groups, each presenting critical topics with Affirmative and Negative teams debating the following:

Group 1 Topic: Should the Use of CRISPR in Humans Be Regulated Globally by an International Policy Body?
Group 2 Topic: Should African Countries Develop and Implement Their Own Ethical Guidelines for Genetic Research Instead of Relying on International Standards?
Group 3 Topic: Should National Healthcare Systems Mandate Genetic Screening for Breast Cancer in High-Risk Populations?

Group 4 Topic: Should AI Be Allowed to Predict Genetic Diseases Without Human Oversight?
Group 5 Topic: Should African Countries Adopt Genetically Modified Organisms (GMOs) to Enhance Agricultural Productivity, or Focus on Indigenous Farming Practices for Food Security?

Group 6 Topic: Should Developing Countries Prioritize Genomic Research Over Other Public Health Investments?
Group 7 Topic: Should African Governments Provide Free Genetic Counseling Services, or Focus Resources on Other Public Health Priorities?

Group 8 Topic: How Can African Countries Address Economic Disparities in Access to Genetic and Genomic Technologies—Through Public Funding or Private Sector Incentives?

Let’s support and cheer them on as they prepare to showcase their advocacy skills and represent their nations with pride. Tanzania,  Egypt, Uganda, Nigeria, Sudan, Malawi, Zambia, Kenya, Mauritius,  Mali,  Côte d’Ivoire, Saudi Arabia, Malaysia

Best regards,
Dr. Wafaa M. Rashed, PhD
