A new advisory on the link between alcohol consumption and increased risk for cancer – ASCO
American Society of Clinical Oncology (ASCO) shared a post on LinkedIn:
“The U.S. Surgeon General released a new advisory on the link between alcohol consumption and increased risk for cancer.
The advisory reports alcohol use as the third leading preventable cause of cancer in the United States—after tobacco and obesity—and affirms our policy statement on alcohol and cancer.
In a statement on the advisory, ASCO President Robin T. Zon, MD, FACP, FASCO, urged Americans to heed the Surgeon General’s advisory and reiterated the society’s dedication to increasing cancer care providers’ understanding of this issue and ensuring they share the information with patients.”
Robin Zon is the President of ASCO for 2024-2025. She also chairs the South Bend Medical Foundation and is a former Director of Breast Oncology at Cincinnati Cancer Advisors. Additionally, she has served as a Physician Emeritus at MHO – Advanced Center for Cancer Care
