“Has modern medicine become a skin of sorrow?
- More technology, less humanity.
- More treatments, less compassion.
- More choice, less dignity.
- More money, less equity.
What a pride to close 2024 by speaking at the JGAF2024 plenary session in my hometown, Kigali, Rwanda!
I had the privilege of meeting with my colleagues from Rwanda and international participants while highlighting a key issue: the perception of palliative care in gastroenterology and across Africa.
Key points of my speech:
- Take cultural aspects into account in palliative care.
- Integrate palliative care in gastroenterology.
- Efficiently allocate resources for better patient outcomes.
This experience reinforced my belief that it is crucial to transform the way palliative care is perceived, not only in our specialty, but throughout Africa. By taking into account cultural specificities and integrating palliative care into our practices, we can significantly improve the quality of life of patients.
Together, we can redefine the future of healthcare in Africa.”
