Christmas looks very different for children with cancer – Children’s Cancer Institute
Children’s Cancer Institute shared a post on LinkedIn.
“Christmas looks very different for children with cancer.
Today, some kids will be spending Christmas in the hospital, isolated from their siblings and missing out on the big family get-togethers.
Some kids might be home, but dealing with yucky sickness and horrible side effects that make it hard to enjoy the day.
Some kids might look ok on the surface after finishing their treatment, but still be battling long-term side effects and lingering trauma.
Some parents will be putting on a brave face, but be fighting internal demons that most people couldn’t imagine.
And tragically, some families will have an empty seat at the Christmas table and a memorial ornament on their trees.
We know that despite everything they may be facing, all our oncology parents and families will be doing everything they can to keep the magic alive, to put a smile on their kids faces and try to find the joy in this special time of year.
No matter how you are spending the day, Children’s Cancer Institute wishes you the happiest Christmas possible and we send you all our love.
Our gift to you all is the promise that our researchers will not stop until we find better treatment options, and ultimately a cure for all children with cancer.
