Nwamaka Lasebikan: Strengthening Institutional Capacity for Cancer Research and Implementation

Nwamaka Lasebikan, President of the Association of Radiation and Clinical Oncologists of Nigeria (ARCON), shared a post on LinkedIn:

“Strengthening Institutional Capacity for Cancer Research and Implementation: The SINCCAR Project.

Cancer remains a significant public health challenge in Nigeria, demanding innovative solutions to improve outcomes.

At National Institute for Cancer Research and Treatment, we are leading the charge with the SINCCAR Project – Strengthening Institutional Capacity for Cancer Research and Implementation.

What is SINCCAR?

The project focuses on building robust institutional frameworks to advance cancer research and ensure the effective implementation of evidence-based interventions. Our mission is clear:

  • Enhance Research Capacity: Equip institutions with the tools, skills, and knowledge to lead impactful cancer research.
  • Strengthen Implementation Science: Bridge the gap between research findings and real-world clinical practice.
  • Support Evidence-Based Decision-Making: Generate high-quality data to inform policies and optimize cancer care delivery.

Why SINCCAR Matters:

  • Institutional Development: Empowering cancer research centers to lead nationally and collaborate globally.
  • Workforce Training: Developing a highly skilled oncology research workforce equipped for data-driven innovation.
  • Collaboration: Promoting partnerships between clinicians, researchers, policymakers, and the global cancer community.
  • Sustainability: Ensuring long-term solutions that strengthen Nigeria’s cancer research and care ecosystem.

Our Vision: To position Nigeria as a leader in cancer research and implementation science, while driving improvements in cancer care outcomes across Africa.

At NICRAT, we recognize that solving complex cancer challenges requires a strong foundation of research capacity and implementation expertise.

The SINCCAR Project is a bold step toward achieving this vision and I am delighted to be leading this effort under the visionary leadership of NICRAT DG Usman Aliyu.

We welcome partners, collaborators, and advocates to join us as we advance the future of cancer research and care in Nigeria.”
