Douglas Flora: Working alongside some of the brightest minds in healthcare

“Every great innovation is forged by individuals who dared to dream beyond what seemed possible in the moment.”
— Clayton Christensen
This weekend, I had the privilege of working alongside some of the brightest minds in healthcare at a retreat outside Austin, TX. Why would we willingly leave our families and give up our precious weekends? Because the opportunity to solve tough problems and reimagine cancer care demands it.
We all recognize that the current approach to cancer care needs a bold rethinking. By leveraging cutting-edge technology, we’re addressing gaps in early detection, diagnosis, decision support, and research. It’s not enough to accept incremental improvements when patients need us to dream beyond what seems possible.
A heartfelt thank you to Debra Patt for hosting us at your beautiful retreat, and to Olalekan Ajayi, Sanjay Juneja, and the Penberthy brothers for your unwavering commitment. Your insights and dedication inspire me, and I’m confident we are paving the way for solutions that will one day make us wonder, how did we ever live without them?
Our coalition of the willing is growing, and so is our determination to tackle the toughest challenges in cancer care.
Let’s build smarter systems, together. What aspect of cancer care do you think needs the most innovation? Share your thoughts below—we’re in this to spark real change.”
