Dr. Mohamed Emam Sobeih is a distinguished medical oncologist and the Deputy Director of the National Cancer Institute (NCI) in Egypt, where he also serves as a Medical Oncology Consultant. With a deep commitment to advancing cancer care, Dr. Sobeih plays a pivotal role in both the clinical and academic aspects of oncology. He is an ambassador for the European School of Oncology (ESO), an organization dedicated to promoting education and expertise in oncology, and serves as a member of the Mesothelioma Committee at the International Association for the Study of Lung Cancer (IASLC). Through these roles, Dr. Sobeih actively contributes to the global efforts in improving cancer treatment, particularly lung cancer.
In addition to his leadership roles, Dr. Sobeih is an influential educator, lecturing in medical oncology at the NCI. His teaching helps shape the next generation of oncologists, ensuring they are well-versed in the latest advancements in cancer care. As the Chair of the Egyptian Cancer Support Foundation, he is deeply involved in supporting cancer patients and advocating for improved cancer care and resources in Egypt. Dr. Sobeih’s research interests span a wide range of cancer types, with a particular focus on lung cancer and mesothelioma, where he has made significant contributions to clinical research and treatment development.

About The ESO College Council
The ESO College Council is a governing body comprised of members elected by their peers to represent the membership and assist in planning and developing activities for the European School of Oncology (ESO). With 8 seats available on the Council, members are tasked with contributing to the growth and strategic direction of the College. The term of office lasts 2 years, from January 2025 to December 2026.
What Does the Role Involve?
Council members will be expected to attend in-person meetings once a year, with the first meeting taking place on 25 January 2025 in Milan. In addition, there will be 4 online meetings in the first year, with the frequency of future meetings being evaluated for the second year. Council members will take on the following responsibilities:
- College Governance: Members will help shape the College’s strategy and structure, assessing the current system and recommending improvements to enhance operations.
- College Development: They will work on identifying and helping to develop new programs, resources, and initiatives to further the College’s mission.
- Working Groups: Members will assist in the creation and management of specific working groups aimed at driving growth, such as:
- Career Resources working group
- Education working group
- Strategy working group
- ESO College Convention: Members will play a role in organizing the 2025 networking convention, a key event for members to connect, exchange ideas, and foster collaboration.
- Regional Networking Events: Council members will explore opportunities to help organize smaller regional networking events that allow members to build valuable career networks within their respective areas.
