Ramon Reyes: A giant step against HER2+ breast cancer with CAR-T immunotherapy
Ramon Reyes, President of both the Association of European Cancer Leagues (ECL), posted on LinkedIn:
“A giant step against HER2+ breast cancer with CAR-T immunotherapy.
HER2+ breast cancer affects up to 30% of patients and current treatments often lose effectiveness due to resistance. For this reason, the Spanish Association Against Cancer, together with Ausonia de Procter and Gamble, has supported with nearly €1M an innovative project led by Dr. Joaquín Arribas and his team from Vall d’Hebron Institute of Oncology (VHIO) and Hospital del Mar Research Institute.
The result?
A state-of-the-art CAR-T immunoterapy that uses the patient’s immune system to specifically target HER2+ tumor cells. A project that in laboratory models has achieved complete regression of the tumour with a safe and durable response, having passed preclinical tests and already requested a clinical trial in patients with HER2+ that have exhausted other options.
Excellent news that brings us a little closer to achieving more personalized and effective treatments for those who need it most.”
Ramon Reyes serves as President of both the Association of European Cancer Leagues (ECL) and the Spanish Association Against Cancer (AECC). He also leads the AECC Scientific Foundation as its President, driving efforts to combat cancer through advocacy, research, and support initiatives.
