The Spatial Atlas of Antigen-Presenting CAFs in Solid Cancers

Anirban Maitra, Professor of Pathology and Translational Molecular Pathology at UT MD Anderson Cancer Center, shared an article by Xiongfeng Chen on X:

“Fantastic preprint from Huocong Huang from UT Southwestern Medical Center.

Single-cell resolution spatial analysis of antigen-presenting cancer-associated fibroblast niches.

This is the definitive antigen presenting cancer associated fibroblast (apCAF) spatial atlas across multiple solid cancers, identifying two distinct apCAF subtypes (F-apCAF and M-apCAF) and their cellular neighborhoods. While iCAF and myCAF entities are better established, there has been so much confusion about apCAFs – are they present in humans, what is their putative role in cancer, what are their cellular neighbors. This study goes deep into the universe of apCAFs.”

Dr. Anirban Maitra serves as Professor of Pathology and Translational Molecular Pathology at UT MD Anderson Cancer Center since August 2013, and directs the Sheikh Ahmed Pancreatic Cancer Research Center. He leads an NCI-funded laboratory dedicated to pancreatic cancer research, focusing on genetics and molecular pathology in human and mouse models. His research aims to advance early detection and interception strategies to enhance patient survival rates in pancreatic cancer.
