Lucjan Wyrwicz at CSCO on modern and future treatment of gastric cancer
Lucjan Wyrwicz, Head of Department, Dept. of Oncology and Radiotherapy, Maria Skłodowska-Curie Memorial Cancer Center, shared on LinkedIn:
“Welcome to Shenyang! Shenyang is the biggest city of north-east China with 9 mln of inhabitants. The population of the agglomeration (22 mln+) is more than half of Poland.
It was a great honor to visit this city on invitation of Chinese Society of Clinical Oncology (CSCO) to give the lecture on modern and future treatment of gastric cancer and take part in two exciting discussion panels with my friend Prof Salah-Eddin Al-Batran from IKF – The Frankfurt Institute of Clinical Cancer Research.
Gastric cancer is one of major malignancies in modern China with about 250000 patients diagnosed yearly with this hard-to-treat cancer. Giving a speech on treatment of gastric cancer in China is like singing an Italian opera at the La Scala or acting as Ophelia in an important theatre. 😉
We also had a great opportunity to discuss how we can improve the quality of our work by introduction of outpatient treatment strategies in gastrointestinal oncology.
I hope that we will be able to organize a site visit for Shenyang oncologist to show how we have reached the goal of 99% of our gastric cancer patients to be treated without need for overnight hospitalization at Narodowy Instytut Onkologii im. Marii Skłodowskiej-Curie – Państwowy Instytut Badawczy.
Special thanks to Prof Yunpeng Liu and Prof Xiujuan Qu from CSCO for hosting the meeting.”
