Maria F Navarro: Cities Taking Action for Gender Equity in Cancer Care
Maria F Navarro, Regional Director Latin America at City Cancer Challenge Foundation, shared a post on LinkedIn:
“After an empowering week at UNGA79, I had the opportunity to connect with colleagues, partners, and friends through City Cancer Challenge. From early morning panels to late-night strategy sessions, the energy was contagious as we shared our commitment to transforming cancer care.
I was privileged to speak at the UN Headquarters alongside an outstanding group of cancer colleagues, discussing our work at various roundtables and sharing how we are advancing cancer care around the world.
During the session “Cities Taking Action for Gender Equity in Cancer Care,” we explored how evidence can translate into action and advance gender-responsive cancer care.
The insights on the power of collaboration to close gender gaps in cancer care, featuring influential leaders such as Lisa Stevens, Julie Gralow, Ophira Ginsburg and Bente Mikkelsen, along with our cities’ action-driven work, will provide hands-on experience in advancing more equitable and inclusive cancer care for all.
A special thanks to our partners from Amgen, Merck, Roche, and Siemens Healthineers for supporting these important discussions.
The launch of C/Can’s ambitious strategy at the Clinton Global Initiative CGI2024 marks an exciting road ahead. We aim to transform cancer care for women starting with 15 cities worldwide, driven by the findings of The Lancet Commission on Women, Power, and Cancer.
Thanks for your leadership, Isabel Mestres and Meritxell Mallafré Larrosa.
A special thank you to our gender working group for their thoughts, friendship, laughter, and contributions: Carolina Goic, Julia Ismael, Miriam Mutebi, Nwamaka Lasebikan, Nur Aishah Mohd Taib, and Elia Lara Lona. Together, we are pushing the boundaries to make gender equity in cancer care a reality!
And of course, spending time with my incredible Regional Director colleagues, Sophie Bussmann-Kemdjo and Chika Kitajima, made the experience even more special. The first picture truly captures the energy and joy of working alongside such inspiring women.”
