Frederic Ivan Ting: Improving cancer care in the country with precision medicine
The Philippine Society of Medical Oncology held its 38th Annual Convention on October 8-11, 2024 at Edsa Shangri-la Hotel, Manila, with this year’s theme, Precision Medicine: Driving the Future and Optimizing Cancer Care in the Philippines. Precision Medicine, as the future of health care, customizes treatment based on individual genetic, environmental, and lifestyle factors. This approach has gained significant traction in cancer care globally, including the Philippines.
In the Philippines, the integration of Precision Medicine in cancer care is still emerging but holds substantial promise. While the socio-economic and infrastructural challenges are significant, the potential for Precision Medicine to revolutionize cancer care in the Philippines is immense. Through concerted efforts and strategic initiatives, measurable progress towards personalized, effective cancer treatment is on the horizon.
“It’s that time of the year again where medical oncologists all over the country gather to reunite, discuss the latest updates in patient management, and conceptualize ways of improving cancer care in the country especially in the era of precision medicine. Mabuhay ang PSMO!”
He also added in another post:
“Had a great time with our residents here at the 38th Annual Convention of the Philippine Society of Medical Oncology PSMO talking about oncology, medicine, including its opportunities and challenges, and life in general ! Hopefully, one of them goes into the subspecialty. We need as much help as we can as the WHO predicts an increase of 35 million cancer cases by 2050 !”
