10 Years of Impact of The Dorcas Cancer Foundation

The Dorcas Cancer Foundation (TDCF) is a national non-profit organization in Nigeria focused on supporting children and young people with cancer and their families. Their mission is to advance childhood cancer research, promote early detection, ensure accurate diagnoses, and facilitate timely, effective treatment. By collaborating with doctors, patients, and families, they aim to ensure that no family faces the challenges of childhood cancer in isolation.

TDCF is celebrating 10 years and shared the following on LinkedIn:

“10 Years of Impact.

At The Dorcas Cancer Foundation (TDCF), societal education about childhood cancer has been one of our core priorities. Since our inception, we have strongly emphasized education and training for healthcare professionals at all levels, patients, families, and the general public.

In 2018, we launched Nigeria’s first-ever Pediatric Cancer Handbook, an educational resource designed to guide families through the complex journey of childhood cancer. This resource addresses common questions from parents, family members, and guardians and offers practical advice on how to communicate with children and concerned loved ones about cancer.

To further broaden the accessibility of this vital information, in 2020 we partnered with Clinton Health Access Initiative, Inc. to publish Nigeria’s first Childhood Cancer Pamphlet, an easy-to-read resource to disseminate information nationwide. This initiative underscores our commitment to making cancer education available in every region of Nigeria.

In 2022, the impact of the Pediatric Cancer Handbook was published revealing that 91.7% of parents found the handbook helpful in improving their understanding of their child’s diagnosis and making the journey more manageable.

You can access the complete publication.

Over 3,500 copies of these resources have been distributed in hard and soft copies across Nigeria.

We remain committed to reducing the burden of childhood cancer and dispelling the associated fear through widespread education efforts, not just in Nigeria but across sub-Saharan Africa.”
