Rawia Mohamed: A loss that forever altered the course of my life

Rawia Mohamed shared a post on LinkedIn:

“The loss of my younger brother to leukemia at the tender age of four was a profound and enduring tragedy.

It was a loss that forever altered the course of my life. Witnessing his battle with such a devastating illness ignited a deep-seated desire within me to understand, combat, and ultimately conquer diseases like the one that claimed his life.

My journey to becoming a surgical pathologist was a direct response to this personal experience. The field offered a unique opportunity to delve into the intricacies of disease at the cellular level, to unravel the mysteries of how cancer develops and progresses.

It was a way to channel my grief into something meaningful, to use my pain as a catalyst for positive change.
As a surgical pathologist, I am privileged to work on the front lines of cancer research and diagnosis.

I examine tissues under a microscope, searching for evidence of disease, identifying the type of cancer, and determining its stage. This work is both challenging and deeply rewarding.

Each case presents a new puzzle to solve, a new opportunity to make a difference.
The experiences I have had as a surgical pathologist have strengthened my resolve and deepened my commitment to my field.

The knowledge that I am contributing to the fight against cancer, even in a small way, is a source of immense satisfaction. My personal connection to the disease has given me a unique perspective, a sense of empathy that I believe is.”
