Sami Mansfield: Muscle equals Magic
Sami Mansfield shared a post on LinkedIn by Jackson Fyfe, Lecturer at Deakin University, adding:
“Muscle equals Magic.
Reminder to everyone to do resistance training at least twice per week. More if you can!
Use your bodyweight, add anything weighted around your home or pick up some equipment. Get lifting!”
Quoting Jackson Fyfe’s post:
“Muscles are for more than just movement.
Exercising muscle releases hundreds of myokines allowing crosstalk with other organs including:
- Gut
- Skin
- Liver
- Bone
- Brain
- Pancreas
- Vascular bed
- Adipose tissue
These pathways may partly explain why exercise lowers the risk of various chronic diseases including type 2 diabetes, dementia, cardiovascular diseases, and cancer.”
