This plan was designed to secure additional funding for existing services and allocate more budget to critical areas such as molecular genetic testing, targeted therapy, and immunotherapy drugs. It also aimed to ensure free imaging for all patients and took measures to provide access to the best cancer care for everyone.
As a cancer care policymaker in the region, Dilyara involved oncologists from Central Asia and the Caucasus, alongside KazIOR, in international collaborations on cancer care, screening, research programs, and tumor boards.
Dilyara has successfully combined extensive clinical responsibilities with research work in oncology, leading to her election to the Lancet Commission, ASCO International Affairs, and the IGCS Council of Asia and Oceania.
Her active involvement in the UICC has provided her with profound experience in promoting comprehensive cancer care, objectives, and principles at both Eurasian and local levels. This culminated in the successful hosting of the World Cancer Leaders’ Summit in Nur-Sultan in 2019.
Previously, as the Medical Director for the Cancer Society of New Zealand, Dilyara instigated the first National Cancer Plan in over 15 years and led advocacy efforts that resulted in the establishment of a national cancer agency.
Her efforts also contributed to the funding of 26 new cancer drugs. She has worked with the International Cancer Benchmarking Project to better understand international variations in outcomes and care. Dilyara brings strong advocacy capabilities to the UICC and has a deep understanding of the challenges related to access to medicines.
Dilyara believes that by working together as a global community, we can be a powerful force for change. Her work with patients, governments, charities, research groups, professional societies, and in advocacy equips her with strong skills to contribute to the UICC.
