Sachin H. Jain: SCAN was recognized this year as one of the Top Diversity Leader Organization
Sachin H. Jain shared a post on LinkedIn:
“I often think of the racism and xenophobia my parents’ generation faced when they came from India—and some of the indignities that they endured.
My Dad—an academic physician who spoke English well, albeit with a slight accent—being snarkily told by a rude medical student that he didn’t understand what he was saying in a large lecture hall.
My Mom—extending herself graciously to other mothers at school—only to feel shut out and left out when she shared her culture and full self.
The courage and self-conviction they had to persevere despite the challenges and obstacles. The example they offered of being proud of who we are—no matter what others might think or say.
We are surrounded by people like my Mom and Dad every day.
New to this country, trying to belong, doing their best.
Despite some of the divisive rhetoric that pervades our society, some of our job at work and in society is to make their lives easier and less lonely to support them in belonging. To create inclusion—and make everyone part of the whole.
It’s one of the reasons I’m as proud as I am that SCAN was yesterday recognized this year as one of the Top Diversity Leader Organization, the first time Modern Healthcare has offered such a designation.”
