“Watch: Grace-Ann Fasaye, Senior Genetic Counselor for the National Cancer Institute (NCI), spoke with GI Oncology Now about research she contributed to regarding the elevated lifetime risk of gastric cancer in patients with CDH1 gene variants.
When it functions correctly, CDH1 acts as a tumor suppressor, preventing cancers from growing. However, mutations (in this case, variants,) in CDH1 could lead to the development of cancer. If you think this variant may run in your family, you can request a referral to a genetic counselor to discuss this and consider genetic testing.”
