Recognising the people impacted by hepatitis this Hepatitis Awareness Week – Cancer Institute NSW

Cancer Institute NSW shared a post on LinkedIn:

“This Hepatitis Awareness Week we are recognising the people impacted by hepatitis, and how we can create a better future.

We are proud to be supporting research that is working to change the face of hepatitis and liver cancer in NSW and beyond.

Learn about Professor Jacob George and Dr. Rekha Jayaram Rao, and how they are making a difference.”

Tracey O’Brien shared this post, adding:

“Chronic hepatitis B and C infections are leading causes of liver cancer – one of the fastest growing cancer types in Australia – but thanks to vaccines and effective treatments, this upward trend can be reversed.

While a significant portion of liver cancers can be prevented, there are still many people across NSW who don’t realise they’re living with hepatitis until it’s too late.

This Hepatitis Awareness Week, the Cancer Institute NSW is highlighting the importance of hepatitis B vaccination and for people at higher risk of hepatitis to speak with their healthcare provider about testing.

Professor Jacob George, renowned liver specialist and Dr. Rekha Jayaram Rao, a General Practitioner who works closely with communities at higher risk of hepatitis, share their expert advice and insights on how at risk communities can reduce their risk of liver cancer.”
