Mark Clemens: Witnessing the periop team’s resilience and dedication during Hurricane Beryl was awe-inspiring
Mark Clemens, Associate Vice President For Perioperative Services at MD Anderson Cancer Center, shared on LinkedIn:
“Yesterday, Category 1 Hurricane Beryl passed over the top of MD Anderson Cancer Center. And Today at 7 AM, the operating rooms on the main campus were fully open, performing some of the most complex surgeries in oncology. Many of the perioperative staff woke up in homes without electricity and drove to work needing to take detours or driving around downed trees to ensure we could still provide the highest level of care for our patients. Witnessing the periop team’s resilience and dedication today was awe-inspiring.
Too many heroes today to name everyone across preop, OR, PACU, SPD, and Materials. In the pictures, a huge shout-out to our OR front desk CCC manager Rasean Spencer, PCT Elizabeth Dimagan who was continuously in the hospital since Sunday, anesthesia boardrunner Javier Lasala, CRNA boardrunner Laurie Hafner, and at the ACB front desk Erin Espiritu, RN.
At a time when Houstonians are all trying to pick up the pieces, everywhere in periop today were those offering, ‘How can I help, do you need a hand?'”
