Voice of the families: Alamiraw Asrat and his brother – CANCaRe Africa
CANCaRe Africa shared a post on LinkedIn:
“Voice of the families, post 28 Alamiraw Asrat and his brother.
Alamiraw Asrat and his brother, Mihiret Asrat, are from Gondar in Ethiopia. Alamiraw lives with his parents and four siblings in a farming family. About seven months ago, Alamiraw was diagnosed with blood cancer (Acute lymphoblastic leukemia). The diagnosis brought massive sadness to his family.
Since his diagnosis, Alamiraw has been receiving chemotherapy at the University of Gondar Comprehensive Specialized Hospital (UoGCSH), located approximately 150 kilometers from his home. The emotional and financial burden made coping extremely difficult for his family.
However, through the support of the Zero Abandonment from Start to Finish Cash Transfers Program and the Tesfa Addis Parents Childhood Cancer Organization (TAPCCO), Alamiraw’s family has received financial and emotional support. These interventions have enabled them to continue his treatment without interruption.
Currently, Alamiraw’s prognosis is improving, and his family feels hopeful. They express deep gratitude for the assistance and care they have received.
Appropriate consent given.”
