“What an incredible morning at the V Foundation Conversations for a Cure Chicago!
I had the privilege of sharing the stage with two extraordinary scientists, Gelareh Zadeh of Mayo Clinic Rochester and Alexander Muir of University of Chicago.
Gelareh showed us how understanding the molecular identity of brain tumors can help us move beyond what a tumor looks like under the microscope toward better prediction, monitoring and ultimately treatment.
Alex took us into the fascinating world of cancer metabolism, asking what nutrients cancer cells have available to them, how they adapt, and whether those dependencies can become new therapeutic vulnerabilities.
Two very different scientific approaches, but the same goal: understand cancer deeply enough to give patients better options.
One of my favorite parts of my job is helping bring remarkable scientists and their ideas to people who make this research possible. Our donors. Today was a wonderful reminder of why we invest in bold science.
