Michelle Mitchell: Urgent Action Needed to Reduce Cancer Waiting Times in England

Michelle Mitchell, Chief Executive at Cancer Research UK, shared on LinkedIn:

“The UK government is currently set to miss its cancer waiting times pledge by more than three years in England. This urgently needs addressing.

Its not good enough. Too many people are anxiously waiting to start cancer treatment and, despite the best efforts of NHS staff, these figures show that the UK government needs to urgently turn up the dial to meet its commitments.

Cancer patients deserve more than ambitions. They deserve an NHS that has the staff and equipment it needs to diagnose and treat cancer on time, giving everyone the best possible chance of beating the disease.

Publishing the National Cancer Plan is not a job done. Action is needed, or too many people will continue to wait too long for vital care.”
