“Side effects labeled ‘low grade’ can still disrupt daily life, so listening directly to patients is essential to understanding how tolerable a treatment truly is. Researchers, clinicians, and advocates need to keep asking how persistent symptoms affect daily functioning, independence, and quality-of-life and then use that information to support better care decisions.
In a LUNGevity-supported study, 81 of 394 participants reported persistent low-grade diarrhea and they shared their lived experiences with the ‘low grade’ side effect. These findings reinforce the importance of patient-reported symptoms in revealing burdens that may not be apparent in clinical reporting alone.
