Global leaders in oncology, humanitarian health, and international organizations have officially rolled out OncoCorridor, a vital new initiative built to link cancer patients trapped in war zones directly with operational treatment facilities worldwide.
Sitting down with OncoDaily, Dr Cary Adams, CEO of the Union for International Cancer Control (UICC), makes it clear that good intentions alone cannot save lives when borders break down. True survival during wartime calls for hard infrastructure, political backing, and rock-solid cross-border systems rather than temporary relief.
Using the UICC Solidarity Fund for Ukraine as a model, Dr. Adams explains how 15 European cancer societies joined forces right after the invasion, pooling more than €1 million to keep critical care from collapsing. That backing went straight toward keeping treatment floors open, securing vital medicines, moving displaced families safely, and funding frontline medical training.
While grassroots NGOs and charities push forward daily, they cannot carry the weight of global conflict alone. Safeguarding continuous oncology care takes a united front from world governments, major health agencies, and institutional leaders.
