“The 2026 ASTRO Annual Meeting provided a valuable opportunity to connect with leaders across the radiation oncology community and discuss how we can collectively advance cancer care for patients around the world.
I was pleased to meet with Dr. Vivek S. Kavadi, FASTRO and the American Society for Radiation Oncology (ASTRO) leadership in Boston to exchange perspectives on several areas of shared interest, including cancer care networks, professional education and training, clinical research, decentralized trials, and international collaboration. These conversations reinforced the importance of bringing together healthcare providers, researchers, professional societies, and industry to address challenges that no single organization can solve alone.
One area that generated particularly meaningful discussion was the growing role of cancer care networks. As healthcare systems continue to evolve, stronger connections across community and academic settings have the potential to help expand access to expertise, support the implementation of evidence-based care, and improve the patient experience. Fostering collaboration and knowledge exchange across these networks is increasingly important as we work to address disparities in care and help more patients benefit from advances in oncology.
We also discussed ASTRO’s strategic priorities, including strengthening its foundation, expanding opportunities to advance research, and supporting greater global engagement. It was encouraging to see strong alignment around the importance of multidisciplinary collaboration, scientific innovation, and continued investment in the future of cancer care.
