Led by Jin Mou, the agenda paired seasoned clinician-researchers with the junior investigators they mentor. The common thread was implementation science:
Studying how cancer care reaches (or fails to reach) people in real-world settings, and addressing the barriers they face.
A few highlights:
- Dr. Jin Mou assessed isothermal HPV assays as a scalable screening tool for low- and middle-income countries.
- Keynote speaker Kyawmin Htike, DrPH, of Khon Kaen University presented a systematic review and meta-analysis of the cancer burden in Nepal.
- Elaine Leung, PhD, of the University of Birmingham shared a low-cost HRD test designed for use in LMICs.
- Cervical cancer screening in Nepal, where only 1% to 3% of adult women are screened. Amit Chaudhary and Aman Shah, MBBS of Binaytara updated us on training female community health volunteers in Madhesh Province, and engaging male community volunteers.
- Jordan Ciuro, MD, of Winship Cancer Institute of Emory University closed the day on how gaps in molecular data leave many patients outside the reach of precision oncology.
