Lisa A. Lacasse: Hopeful that President Biden calls on Congress to increase funding for cancer research and pass critical legislation that benefits cancer patients and their loved ones

Lisa A. Lacasse, President at American Cancer Society Cancer Action Network, shared a post by American Cancer Society on LinkedIn, adding the following:

”Looking forward tonight’s Address and hopeful that President Biden calls on Congress to increase funding for cancer research and pass critical legislation that benefits cancer patients and their loved ones. We also urge him to give his commitment to finalizing FDA rules to end the sale of menthol in cigarettes and all flavors in cigars. Future breakthroughs rely on our commitment to pass policies we know are proven to reduce cancer mortality rates and give everyone a fair and just opportunity to prevent, detect, treat and survive cancer.”

Quoting American Cancer Society’s post:

”At tonight’s State of the Union address, we’re hopeful that President Biden elevates his commitment to the Cancer Moonshot by calling on Congress to support bipartisan legislation that will improve the lives of people with cancer and their families.

Together with the American Cancer Society, we’re supporting the following priorities to help achieve the Cancer Moonshot:

  • Reduce cancer incidence and mortality
  • Increase cancer research funding at The National Institutes of Health and the National Cancer Institute (NCI) to bring groundbreaking innovation to communities
  • Increase cancer prevention funding at the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention
  • Save lives by finalizing the FDA’s rules to end the sale of menthol cigarettes and flavored cigars

We’re also pleased to see President Biden’s continued commitment to Patient Navigation with First Lady Jill Biden inviting patient navigator Kris Blackley as one of her guests. The American Cancer Society has long known the value of this critical service to ensure everyone has access to evidence-based screening, treatment and survivorship care.

We have made incredible progress in the fight against cancer, and we can’t let up now. Let’s give everyone a fair and just opportunity to prevent, detect, treat, and survive cancer.”
