Day 1 of the World Cancer Leaders’ Summit got off to a strong start! – UICC

Union for International Cancer Control (UICC) posted on LinkedIn:

“Day 1 of the World Cancer Leaders’ Summit got off to a strong start! We had a day packed with insightful discussions and valuable sessions, setting the stage for the rest of this exciting event.

A few key topics that were discussed:

– People with a cancer experience should be central to the policymaking process. It’s time for this approach to become institutional – not exceptional.

– Advances have been made in recent years in childhood cancer care. This would not have been possible without comprehensive programs that bring together academia, healthcare systems, global agencies, governments, professional organisations, and advocacy groups.

– The disparities in cancer care are increasing in both the US and globally, with patients in low-resource settings being left behind. Innovative, collective solutions are needed to address these gaps.

– We discuss the cancer experience among Indigenous/Native populations in regions of the United States and in Mexico. Disparities in access to cancer prevention, screening and early detection, diagnosis, treatment, and supportive care are topics of concern, including implications and outcomes of those disparities as well as opportunities to address them.

The dedication and commitment of our global community were evident, and we’re excited for further discussions tomorrow!”
