Guillermo Chantada: Important data to understand how pediatric oncology care is provided in Latin America
Guillermo Chantada shared a post by SIOP on LinkedIn:
“This is a comprehensive paper from SIOP:
Global mapping program done with the critical support of many people and institutions like Sociedad Latinoamericana de Oncología Pediátrica (SLAOP), SOBOPE, Pan American Health Organization and others like ACHOP, AMHOP, INC (Argentina) among others and all the 307 participating centers with the support from Foundation S and the excellent data and managing support from Resonance under the leadership of Maite Gorostegui from Barcelona Children’s Hospital Sant Joan de Déu.
Very important data to understand how pediatric oncology care is provided in Latin America came out but briefly, care is concentrated in referral centers in most countries, public hospitals (usually pediatric hospitals) see the majority of patients and the workforce is still insufficient to provide an excellent care, despite the recent efforts.
The time to improve is now. Special thanks to Neviçolino P de Carvalho Filho, Oscar González Ramella, Diana Valencia and Florencia Moreno.”
