Highlights from Day 1 of ESTRO Meets Asia 2024!
The “ESTRO Meets Asia 2024”conference is being held from August 23rd to 25th in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia. It represents a significant convergence of radiotherapy and oncology expertise, bringing together professionals from Europe and Asia to share knowledge and advance treatment practices.
This event, organized by the European Society for Radiotherapy and Oncology (ESTRO) in collaboration with Asian radiotherapy societies, focuses on cutting-edge research, innovative technologies, and clinical practices in oncology.

“‘What do Radiation Therapists do?’ is a question that can be hard to answer if asked by your parents or at a dinner party. Dr Yat Man Tsang (Phd) did a very good job of answering the question while also looking to the future role of Radiation Therapists in a period of rapid technological change.
Yat is Director of Radiation Therapy at Princess Margaret Cancer Centre Canada and Chair of the ESTRO Radiation Therapist Committee.
His wide-ranging talk focused on the patient experience of treatment from many angles. It included a study of the effectiveness of a consistent 1 to 1 connection between a patient and a Radiation Therapist throughout the patient’s pre-treatment and treatment pathway. The positive results led making this routine practice.
His AI generated future vision of the bunker was remarkable. This summary doesn’t do his presentation justice. He has the gifts of both intellectual rigour and humour.”
