Ruti Alon: A New Milestone in the Fight Against Pancreatic Cancer

Ruti Alon, Founder and CEO of Medstrada, shared on LinkedIn:

“Pancreatic cancer remains one of the most difficult cancers to treat, which makes today’s milestone at Alpha Tau Medical particularly meaningful to me.

Alpha Tau has completed enrollment in its multicenter IMPACT pilot study evaluating Alpha DaRT® in combination with standard first-line chemotherapy in patients with newly diagnosed, unresectable locally advanced or metastatic pancreatic cancer.

What caught my attention is how the study evolved. IMPACT was originally approved for just 12 patients. It was subsequently expanded three times – ultimately enrolling 48 patients – driven by strong demand from patients and clinicians, including a third expansion requested by participating clinical sites.

That does not tell us whether the treatment works. We will need the clinical data for that.

But it does tell us something important about the interest in exploring a new approach in a disease where treatment options remain far too limited. Alpha DaRT is being used here as a one-time local treatment added to, rather than replacing, standard systemic chemotherapy. Earlier studies in Israel and Canada established a favorable safety profile that supported combining Alpha DaRT with full-dose first-line chemotherapy.

With enrollment now complete, IMPACT moves into follow-up and data maturation. Initial data are targeted for early 2027 and are intended to help inform the design of a planned pivotal study. And IMPACT is not an isolated effort. It is part of a broader pancreatic cancer program that also includes the ACAPELLA trial in France and a study at the University of Verona exploring percutaneous delivery.

There is still a long way to go, and these are clinical studies of an investigational therapy. But in pancreatic cancer, where progress has historically been painfully difficult, building the evidence step by step matters.

Congratulations to the investigators, clinical teams and, above all, the patients who chose to participate. I am a member of the Board of Directors of Alpha Tau Medical.”
