“Pleased to see the final results of the PEMDA-HN study recently published in the IJROBP, The Red Journal
This international, multicentre phase II trial evaluated danvatirsen plus pembrolizumab versus pembrolizumab alone as first-line treatment for patients with recurrent or metastatic head and neck squamous cell carcinoma.
While the combination did not improve response rates compared with pembrolizumab alone, the study provides an important reminder of the value of well-designed randomised clinical trials – including when the results are not what we hoped for.
At Barts Cancer Institute (Queen Mary University of London), we were proud to contribute to this collaborative effort and to the generation of evidence that helps guide future research and treatment strategies in head and neck cancer.
