National Cancer Centre Singapore (NCCS) shared on LinkedIn:
“Huge congratulations to Prof Bin Tean Teh from NCCS, Clin Assoc Prof Frederick Koh from SKH, and Dr Jason Chua Min Wen from ASTAR IMCB on receiving the National Academy of Medicine Healthy Longevity Global Grand Prize (Honorable Mention)!
So proud of the team for being one of only 14 teams selected from 146 applicants, as well as the sole prize recipient from Singapore!
Led by Prof Teh, the team is working to uncover the mechanisms behind sarcopenia, an age-associated condition that causes the progressive loss of skeletal muscle mass, strength, and regenerative capacity. Sarcopenia affects at least a quarter of hospitalised patients in Singapore, and its global burden is expected to grow as ageing populations and metabolic disorders become more prevalent.
Despite this, current clinical approaches fail to address underlying mechanisms of the condition and are largely reactive.
Using advanced technologies like multi-omics, next-generation multi-tissue cell banking, AI and machine learning, and advanced 3D organoid and organ-on-chip modelling, the team is working to identify interventions that preserve function, extend healthspan, and push the boundaries of healthy ageing.”
