Natalia Baran: New Collaborative Study Identifies Promising Small Molecules Targeting Acute Myeloid Leukemia

‘Cheminformatic Identification of Small Molecules Targeting Acute Myeloid Leukemia’

My warmest congratulations to my colleague and friend Prof. Natalia Kirienko at Rice University for leading this exciting study, and to all co-authors for this great collaborative effort.

Through cheminformatic screening of approximately 4.2 million compounds, the team identified novel small molecules that selectively target acute myeloid leukemia (AML) through apoptosis, autophagy, and disruption of glutathione metabolism.

The compounds also demonstrated promising synergy with the FLT3 inhibitor midostaurin and the BCL-2 inhibitor venetoclax, with key findings validated in AML patient-derived cells.

It was a great pleasure to contribute to this collaborative effort.
