Luis Álvarez-Vallina: Introducing a Modular Biomolecular Platform for Cancer Therapy

Luis Álvarez-Vallina, Scientific Director at Banc de Sang I Teixits, shared on LinkedIn:

“Pleased to share our new paper in Journal of Controlled Release, in collaboration with Kenneth A. Howard and his team at Aarhus University: ‘A modular nucleic acid-albumin biomolecular platform for multifunctional drug designs.’

This work combines albumin genetic fusion with programmable oligonucleotide assembly to integrate an EGFR×CD3 T cell engager and a PD-L1-blocking single-domain antibody into a modular biomolecular platform: Albu-CiTE. The platform preserves target binding and FcRn engagement while enabling checkpoint inhibition and T cell-mediated tumor killing. Its modular architecture offers opportunities to explore therapeutic combinations and tune half-life through albumin engineering.

A pleasure to contribute to this multidisciplinary collaboration. Congratulations to all co-authors.”
