Julia Lai-Kwon։ Survivorship Experience of People with Stage II–IV Melanoma After Adjuvant Therapy

Julia Lai-Kwon, Senior Research Fellow, Centre for Health Services Research in Cancer at Peter MacCallum Cancer Centre, shared on LinkedIn:

“How are people with melanoma doing 2 years after starting adjuvant immunotherapy or targeted therapy?

SUMMA, our prospective, longitudinal PROMs study of people with resected stage IIB-IV melanoma melsm Peter MacCallum Cancer Centre is out now in EJC Skin Cancer.

2 yrs after starting adjuvant treatment:

  • 71% reported fatigue
  • 31% reported anxiety
  • 34% reported depression
  • 31% had clinically significant fear of cancer recurrence
  •  24% reported financial toxicity
  • Ongoing symptoms were the main barrier to returning to work

Survivorship issues persist long after adjuvant treatment ends.

We hope SUMMA can inform shared decision making and drive routine screening and supportive care for this patient group.

Thank you to all our study participants for their valuable time and insights!”
