Jennifer Bires: Rethinking Technology, Efficiency, and the Patient Experience

Jennifer Bires Executive Director, Life with cancer and Patient Experience at Inova Schar Cancer Institute, shared on LinkedIn:

“In just a few weeks, I’ll be in Austin for SHIFT: Driving Innovations in Oncology Care, moderating a conversation I’m really looking forward to: Rebooting the Oncology Ecosystem: Synchronizing Discovery, Delivery, and Whole-Patient Support

We talk a lot about how technology can make cancer care more efficient. But efficiency isn’t the end goal.

The real opportunity is how we use technology to make care more human. How can technology help us know our patients better? Spend less time compiling information and more time actually talking with them? Communicate in ways that are more understandable and meaningful? Identify needs we might otherwise miss? And create stronger connections across the many people and services involved in a patient’s care?

And perhaps most importantly: if technology gives clinicians time back, how do we make sure that time goes back to patients rather than simply creating capacity for more volume?

I’m looking forward to digging into these questions with Arif Kamal, Christopher Merlan; and Debra Patt.

If you’ll be at SHIFT, I hope you’ll join us.
