Iván González, Medical Oncologist at the Comprehensive Cancer Center, Hospital Ángeles Puebla, shared on X:
“Exciting new insights on multifocal early-stage primary lung cancer (MPLC) presented at WCLC25!
Background:
MPLC cases are rising. Patients often undergo multiple resections to major parenchyma loss. Limited treatment options beyond surgery.
Study aim: Characterize tumor evolutionary trajectories and explore mutation profiles in normal lung tissue vs SPLC.
Key findings:
- Two distinct pathways drive MPLC development.
- Neutrophil-driven inflammation in the pulmonary “soil” promotes MPLC.
- Tumor-associated gene mutations widely present in morphologically normal tissue.
Conclusion: Understanding early molecular and inflammatory events is crucial to identify new therapeutic targets for MPLC.”
