Why Does Education Level Matter in Cancer Mortality Across Europe? – IARC

IARC – International Agency for Research on Cancer World Health Organization shared on LinkedIn:

“Socioeconomic inequalities in cancer mortality are widespread across European countries, with higher mortality consistently observed among people with lower levels of education. The information is included in a new Policy Brief from the EU-CanIneq project, a collaboration between IARC and Erasmus MC.

Cancer inequalities remain a major public health challenge across Europe, but they can be reduced. This new Policy Brief sets out key findings and recommendations for action at national level to help policymakers strengthen cancer prevention, improve access to screening and care, reduce inequalities, and monitor their progress.

Watch a brief video explanation with Dr Mohamed El Amine Youcef Ali here.

EUCanIneq is an IARC–Erasmus MC project co-funded by the European Union through the European Commission’s EU4Health programme, contributing data and evidence on socioeconomic inequalities in cancer mortality to the European Cancer Inequalities Registry (ECIR), an initiative of Europe’s Beating Cancer Plan. The ECIR is jointly governed by the European Commission’s DG SANTE and Joint Research Centre (JRC), the OECD – OCDE, and IARC.”
