How the EU Framework for Low-Intervention Clinical Trials Compares with the UK and Switzerland – EORTC

European Organisation for Research and Treatment of Cancer (EORTC) shared on LinkedIn:

“Academic treatment optimization trials often evaluate well-established therapies to improve patient outcomes, quality of life, and healthcare sustainability. Yet, these low-risk studies can still face regulatory requirements that delay important evidence generation.

Selected among the Top 3 abstracts at the European Cancer Organisation Summit, this new publication from EORTC explores how the EU framework for low-intervention clinical trials compares with approaches in the UK and Switzerland, and outlines opportunities in the proposed Biotech Act for a more proportionate, risk-based regulatory model that supports efficient multinational academic research.

The analysis draws on lessons from the EORTC DE-ESCALATE trial in metastatic prostate cancer.

Congratulations and thank you to Rana Kassas, Denis Lacombe, Stéphanie Kromar, and all contributors to this important work.”

To which, Winette van der Graaf, Professor of Medical Oncology at The Netherlands Cancer Institute, added:

“Important to de-escalate therapies if possible and safe, but also to de-escalate all the trial related burden, costs and efforts where possible for such low interventional clinical studies.

Important work and great to hear that the content will be shared at the European Cancer Organisation Summit in November in Brussels.”
