Derek Tsang, Radiation Oncologist at Princess Margaret Cancer Centre, shared on LinkedIn:
“Since we published our original case series of 4 patients treated with re-irradiation for recurrent craniopharyngioma, I have gotten many inquiries and questions about this data:
Is it feasible?
How toxic is re-RT for this tumour in a sensitive location?
Proud to say we have now updated this data with longer-term follow-up.
Re-irradiation is definitely a treatment of last resort – it should be used only in patients who have no other surgical or intracystic option – but is a feasible option with good outcomes in selected patients.
